🌿On the third working day, the SAWA delegation continued its program with a short trip to Tauranga a coastal city known for its beautiful Mt Maunganui and the Bay of Plenty region.
The delegation took a brief walk around the city center to observe several Mass Timber development projects, reflecting Tauranga’s forward-looking approach toward sustainable construction.
The next stop was the Sequal Office, where the delegation received a warm welcome and enjoyed a Kiwi-style breakfast featuring fresh fruit and scones. The group was greeted by Mr. David Turner – CEO and Ms. Jenny Loh – Business and NGO consultant, received a thoughtful cultural gift representing New Zealand’s hospitality, followed by a Karakia ceremony led by Mr. Aaron Ralph SEQUAL

During the meeting, Ms. Jenny Loh – Business and NGO consultant  presented Sequal’s innovative timber processing and customisation solutions, and shared the company’s “Give More” philosophy – demonstrating its commitment to creating value beyond products and contributing positively to both the community and the environment.

The delegation then visited the Tauranga City Council Mass Timber Building, an 8-storey structure recently completed and hosted by Mr. Mike Naude – Director Civil Development TCC

The project stands as a clear example of the efficiency and potential of Mass Timber construction, having been completed in a significantly shorter timeframe than a concrete building of similar scale that remains unfinished after two years of construction.
