SAWA ACCOMPANIES THE DEVELOPMENT OF NATIONAL STANDARDS FOR FOR TIMBER STRUCTURES
On June 21, 2026, Mr. Nguyen Manh Binh San, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Structure Architecture Wood Association (SAWA), represented the Association at a meeting convened by the Ministry of Construction to review proposals for the development of Vietnam National Standards (TCVN) for 2027 in the field of structural engineering, submitted by the Vietnam Institute for Building Materials (VIBM) Viện Vật liệu xây dựng – VIBM.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Le Minh Long, Deputy Director General of the Department of Science, Technology, Environment and Building Materials under the Ministry of Construction. Representing VIBM was Ms. Luu Thi Hong, Vice Director of the Institute. The meeting also welcomed Mr. Nguyen Phuong, Chairman of the Dong Nai Wood and Handicraft Association (DOWA), together with experts and representatives from universities and research institutions.
The proposed standards cover a range of fundamental topics for structural timber construction, including timber strength grading, Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL), machine-based strength classification, technical requirements for structural timber, and standards related to the durability of wood and wood-based products.
The participation of SAWA alongside government agencies, research institutes, universities, and industry experts highlights the increasingly important role of the business community in contributing to the development of Vietnam’s technical standards framework for timber construction.
The establishment of national standards for structural timber will not only provide a consistent foundation for the design, manufacturing, and construction of timber buildings, but also facilitate the broader adoption of Mass Timber solutions, engineered wood products, and low-carbon green buildings in the years ahead.
