On the morning of July 31st, Mr. Dinh Hong Ky, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Green Business Association (HGBA), delivered a presentation on “Challenges in Green Transition” at the Green Transition Forum and Recycling Day 2025. The event was organized by the High-Quality Vietnamese Goods Business Association (HVNCLC), the BSA Center, and the HVNCLC Program.
Mr. Ky stated that while the **VUCA world** (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity) allowed executives to “predict and control to some extent,” the **BANI era** (Brittle, Anxious, Nonlinear, Incomprehensible) offers businesses no such opportunity. Long-term plans, once a source of confidence for many leaders, now risk becoming “dangerous legacies” without flexibility and the ability to pivot quickly.

Concurrently, stringent regulations from international markets, such as **CBAM** (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism), **ESG** (Environmental, Social, and Governance) standards, and requirements for emissions and supply chain transparency, are tightening in the EU, US, Japan, and other regions. These create a “life-or-death line” for Vietnamese businesses.
Given this reality, Mr. Dinh Hong Ky recommended that businesses recognize that **green transition** cannot be a series of minor adjustments. Instead, it must be a **comprehensive restructuring process**, encompassing everything from products, supply chains, and operational procedures to the company’s culture and mission.
